Pinot Noir is one of the greatest, yet difficult of all grape varieties. At it's best, it produces wines that are smooth, elegant, and subtle, exuding class and style.
But there can be huge differences in the wines, especially when comparing "New World" to "Old World" pinots. The old world, represented by Burgundy, often gives flavors and complex aromas hinting at wild flowers, spices, smokiness, and the earthier components, whereas the new world wines, represented by Oregon, California, and New Zealand (among others), are often fuller-bodied, with strong fruit-driven, cherry-like aromas.
In this event we will be tasting a variety of Pinot Noirs from both New and Old World producers. This will be done blind, so as not to influence our judgements as to which might be best. We'll be able to test our palates to see if we can pick out which is which, and which we think is the best.
