March 20, 2009 - The Minneapolis Club,
Tastes From Around the World
Text and Photos by Margaret Leto
It started with a simple trip to the Minneapolis Club, and we ended up being transported around the world through food, wine and magical dances….

Upon arrival we knew something would be different, the lights, the sounds and a dance floor? Anxiously anticipating what was to come, we sipped on our Centenaire Brut champagne while experiencing some lovely canapés.
Spain
We were whisked away from our reception to the dinner tables only to experience shortly after we sat down the music and sensational dance of the Paso Doble. The Dances Studio so eloquently explained the dance afterwards and we then started our journey. The wait staff graced our settings with a lentil soup with aged goat cheese mousse while previously pouring a Touraine “les Roches” wine.
India

Next, with the lights turned down low, a belly dancer jingled out on to the dance floor and gave us a great show with the traditional Indian belly dance. A stripped bass baked in banana leaf with red fish curry, grilled prawns & biriyani rice was served with a Jean Marc Brocard Chablis.
Cuba

Our next stop, Cuba, the salsa! What a dramatic change and with the brilliant costumes we were mesmerized while only to end with a traditional Cuban pork shoulder, frijoles negro & tostones. The Chateau la Nerth Chateauneuf de Pape complimented the dish well.
MN

Our local stop to Minnesota brought about the foxtrot and a selection of artisan cheeses.
Argentina

We ended with a sexy tango then calming our nerves with a trio of desserts and coffee. From Paso Doble to dulce de leche and all the points in-between, our journey came to a memorable end.
